I have marvelled for many years over Lake George, the disappearing lake near Canberra.
In 1996 I commuted from Canberra to the NSW Southern Tablelands to work on the Goulburn Post and I well remember water lapping at the then single-carriage highway that skirted the lake.
Then for years it was bone dry. Where had all the water gone? A mystery! It was as if someone had let the plug out.
Lately, it’s filled up again from heavy rain.
The other week I passed it on the way to Sydney and I’ve never seen it so full.
I wondered if there were fish in there, and, if so, how did they get there?
So I looked it up on Google and was amazed at all the species in there.
Then I realised I was looking at Lake George in Washington!
Have a lovely Christmas – from a cold, wet, grey London
